Is the ceramic brake pad must be better than semi-metallic brake pad?

1

Automotive technology is developed, the material of friction materials is also evolved in all the way, mainly divided into several major categories:

Organic brake pad
Before the 1970s, the brake pads contained a large number of asbestos materials, take high temperature resistance, fire resistance, and frictional characteristics, but because the powder produced by asbestos in the production and use, there are a variety of damage to the human body, which is easy to cause respiratory systems. Diseases are even carcinogenic, so the cotton brakes are currently banned by global.
Then, current organic brake pads are generally called NAO brake pads (Non-Asbestos Organic, no stone-free organic brake pads), which generally contains 10% -30% of metal materials, and also include plant fibers, glass Fibers, carbon, rubber, glass and other materials.
The organic brake pads have improved performance in wear and noise control through many years of development and material improvement, but also suitable for daily driving. The dust generated and the damage to the brake disc is less. However, due to material cost, etc., the organic brake film is generally expensive, and the original factory will generally be used on the medium and high-end models.

Semi-metal brake pad
The so-called half metal is mainly in the friction material used in such brake pads, from about 30% -65% of the metal – including copper, iron, etc. The characteristics of this brake pad are mainly cool, high temperature resistance, relatively low price, and disadvantage is due to material reasons, the noise during the brakes will be large, and the wear of the metal material to the brake disc will be large. Since the semi-metal brake pad has the characteristics of us above, there are mainly two major applications, one is the original factory supporting brake pads of the medium and low-end models – this nature is the low price. The other direction is mainly in the field of modified brake skin – because the metal brakes are good, it is more suitable for high performance cars or in various events. After all, in this way of use, the maximum temperature of the brake skin will reach even more than 800 degrees Celsius. So we can see that many modified brands have a higher metal material for the brakes of fierce driving and events.

Ceramic brake pad
The ceramic brake pads can be described as insufficient for organic and semi-metal brake pads. Its material is mainly combined by a variety of materials such as mineral fibers, aramid fibers, and ceramic fibers. On the one hand, when there is no metal material, the brake pad and the brake disc, the noise will be significantly reduced. At the same time, the damage to the brake disc will be significantly reduced. In addition, the ceramic brake pads can remain stable in high temperature, avoiding organic or metal brake pads due to long-term or high-speed brakes, due to the brake strength of the material melting, greatly enhanced safety. It is also more wear.
